Hi Reader!
It's been a hot minute since I've graced your inbox with an email.
About 6 months to be exact 🙃
And I missed you. So here's the tea. My entire adult life has been molded through a lens of marketing, branding and positioning.
When I was in college, it was about being marketable enough to land the internship.
When I started my clothing company in college, it was about being marketable enough that people would be inspired and feel confident in the clothes.
When I was 22 and entering into the work force, it was about positioning myself in the best light to land the "dream job".
When I was working with 6-7 figure entrepreneurs on behalf of a tech company, it was about branding myself as intelligent, strategic and creative enough for them to believe in me.
When I took the leap into being a full time entrepreneur in 2020, it was about marketing Deeper Life as a resource for millennial women and being a qualified, competent coach that helps clients get results.
Was it all a lie? No.
But the lens of being marketable and positioning myself as an authority (in qualified areas) influenced how I showed up. And it still does.
And I'm low key tiiiirrreeeeddd of that marketing bullshit.
It feels like a slimy, murky filter that glosses over my humanity, my personality, and my voice.
I love the creator space. I love influencers, tiktok, and being an entrepreneur.
AND it can invite us to this place of perfection and performance all too often.
That's why I've been craving to take it back to my roots. Writing. I haven't taken time to really write in years. At my core, I think it's because I'm scared of what might escape out. Will it be professional enough? Marketable enough? Will it align with my brand? What if I hurt someone's feelings?
It's not that I don't care about those things, it's that I care less.
How often do you stay quiet because you're afraid of what other people will think?
Do you find yourself acting like two completely different people depending on where you are and who you're with?
Do you struggle to even have enough energy to dig deeper to see if you're really happy and living in alignment with your values?
I feel that.
I'm here with you in the messy middle - where we are all doing the best we can with what we have, while also trying to grow and be 1% better every day.
If marketing, filters, influencers, positioning yourself perfectly and feeling performative is draining you, you're in good company.
3 questions for you to think/journal through:
Gosh, it feels good to be back with you in such a safe, raw place. Let's do this again soon. Same time next Thursday?
Keep shining babe, remember your power, and create space for yourself today.
Love ya,
Alexis
P.S. I cuss a little (or maybe a lot) and you'll see more of that reflected in this newsletter than anywhere else I share online. If that bothers or offends you, I respect that and I'll take this opportunity to kindly ask you to unsubscribe ❤️
Hi Reader! There's an old proverb that states, "If you want to go fast, go alone; if you want to go far, go together." I was 22 the first time I heard this and it stuck with me. And I actually hold each side of the proverb with equal weight. Being independent, emotionally resilient and feeling comfortable with yourself is incredibly important. There have been seasons of my life where I've hunkered down and gotten a lot accomplished in a short period of time - completely alone. Then comes the...
Hello Reader! Yes, the subject line is correct. I live in my in-laws basement. And I have for almost two years. Before I dive into what I've learned from this, let's back up a bit. In April of 2020, my husband got the exciting news that he was selected to join a top secret mission in South America. I'm kidding - he's a geologist but I swear it's a cover and he's really a spy. I digress. He did in fact get selected for a new assignment in Guyana, South America, effective August 2020. It's his...
Hi Reader! I am honored to have you in the Deep Reset. Your time is valuable and you've made the decision to take an intentional pause each day for the next 21 days to really focus on yourself. That's powerful. There is breakthrough and transformation for you on the other side of this reset, I can just feel it. Can you? Below are the main resources you'll need in your Deep Reset. I highly suggest looking at the call calendar now and block off time on your personal calendar, especially for the...
